Denson embracing corner

Cam Denson

Cam Denson has started his career at Arizona at corner. Read on to see what he says about camp, the transition, and more.

As Cameron Denson rewrote Tucson high school receiving records on a seemingly weekly basis during his years at Salpointe Catholic High School, Wildcat fans were left to imagine what he would do with the ball in his hands at the University of Arizona.

Denson proceeded to sign with a team stacked at the wide receiver position and paper thin at cornerback and where many kids of Denson’s stature would bristle at the notion of playing a less glamorous position, he jumped at the opportunity.

“They basically said that I could come in and compete for playing time at cornerback early,” Denson said. “I wasn’t really recruited at that position, but, honestly, if that’s what helps the team I’m all for it.”

The transition has been far from seamless.

“Everyday I’m learning new stuff," Denson said. "I played all over the place in high school, but really focusing on one position here at a major college has been tough.

“I’m getting better and when you look at the guys I’m going against everyday in practice, the games will be a lot easier. I’m driven to be the best I can be and it might take me some time, but I am going to get there and I will be good.”

It’s this type of attitude that figures to make Denson a Rich Rodriguez favorite.

“He likes guys that really care about football and take the game seriously," Denson said. "That is me. You won’t have to worry about me ever being out of shape or anything like that.

"Nobody will ever question my work ethic or my will to get better and win. That is the legacy I hope to leave here.” Recommended Stories
