| Walters will have to dive right in. The true freshman is the only real post player on the bench after a tumultuous off-season decimated the position.
Walters lacks bulk and experience, but has great athleticism and work ethic. Walters was a terrific high jumper in high school and has worked hard to go from obscurity to a top flight Division I recruit.
Walters was an unknown before last summer’s Las Vegas Big Time Tournament, but left with the interest of the Wildcats and soon had a scholarship offer. He attended Midnight Madness and committed shortly thereafter. Walters went to Las Vegas in hopes of solidifying a scholarship offer to a MAC school and left as a top-100 prospect.
In many ways Walters is similar to Channing Frye. Like Frye at that stage of his career, Walters is athletic but very thin. He needs to bulk up and is putting in his time in the weight room. Also like Frye, Walters runs the floor very well and has a nice stroke from 15-feet.
Walters will be the first post player off the bench for the Wildcats and will need to make an immediate impact. He won’t have a lot of time to adjust to big-time basketball, which could be tough after playing small school hoops in Michigan. Walters has a lot of promise and it will have to surface quickly.
