| Originally committed to Arkansas but was granted a full release from his Letter-of-Intent by the NCAA when Razorback head coach Nolan Richardson was fired. Arizona gladly accepted Iguodala, a mulit-dimensional athlete capabale of stepping right in and contributing.
As a senior at Lanphier HS in Springfield, Illinois, Iguodala averaged 23.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while leading his team to a 32-2 overall record and a runner-up finish in the state tournament. After the season ended, Iguodala was named a 2nd team Parade All-American and won Illinois Mr. Basketball Award as the state's Player of the Year.
A tenacious defender, Iguodala has been quoted as saying, "I am going to come in and win the defensive player of the year award as a freshman". When told that such an award didn't exist in the Pac-10, he simply said, "Well, make one then". |
