Arizona’s next basketball coach must meet five very important criteria. We outline them below.
Arizona’s next basketball coach must meet five very important criteria. We outline them below.
1. Winning Experience
He can’t just have won recently, he must have been winning for a very long time. The worst thing Jim Livengood could do is hire someone who has been good lately but unproven over time.
2. Big Time Recruiter
If you are going to go up against UCLA, you need the athletes to do it. That means recruiting the best players from around the country. The next coach must have recruiting experience and connections from everywhere.
3. NCAA Tournament Success
Who cares if you’re good in the regular season if you can’t win in the NCAA Tournament? But I’m not going to say any names, Mark Few.
4. Defense
Is anyone else sick of watching Arizona play no defense? The next coach needs to not slow it down (see #5), but also needs to at least attempt to teach his teams to play defense. But I’m not going to say any names, Mark Few.
5. Fun style of play
As an Arizona fan, you are entitled to watching a team that runs up and down the court and isn’t completely boring. No more Ben Howland ball; that stuff is killing the Pac-10. Let’s get a coach who wants to run and who will recruit players that want to run.
