Arizona may have turned the ball over five times, but the end result was the most important aspect of the night.
Arizona
turned the ball over five times on Saturday night, but the defense dominated as the Wildcats defeated
UCLA
27-13 at Arizona Stadium.
"Tonight was another very good win," Mike Stoops said. "All the turnovers we had tonight were troublesome, but I'm glad that we were able to pull through this so convincingly."
Nick Foles
had his first bad game of the season and although he had the flu, Stoops stopped short of making excuses.
"Nick (Foles) was not at his best tonight," Stoops said. "I don't think he was himself tonight. I'm not making excuses for him, and he isn't either, but it seems like he's probably a little under the weather tonight.
"Despite all the good, he made quite a few careless choices, and there is definitely some room for him to improve."
The defense was the real story, however, as UCLA finished with a meager 211 total yards of offense.
"Defense did a very good job tonight of keeping UCLA out of the end zone, and it's great to see them play so convincingly," Stoops said. "Mark (Stoops) did a great job game planning this week, and the kids did a great job executing it."
Nicolas Grigsby and
Keola Antolin
left the game due to shoulder injuries and the ensuing bye week will give both a chance to heal.
"This bye week comes at a very good time," Stoops said. "We definitely are going to need this week to heal up. I want to spend this week getting our guys back up to full strength for the back end of our schedule.
"We are in a very good position right now. The kids feel good, and I am pleased with their overall effort."
