Ability to pick and choose refreshing

Arizona has been able to pick and choose with recruiting more than in year's past.

When Chandler Whitmer committed to Illinois on Monday, much of it had to do with the fact that he simply liked the school.

However, a lot of it had to do with the fact that Arizona got its man before he had a chance to pull the trigger. See, Whitmer liked Arizona and the UA was definitely in it, but Arizona chose to pursue its man more aggressively and got him.

Matt Brown is a player that the coaching staff sees making a major impact down the road and the strategy of being a bit more patient with other prospects while recruiting Brown aggressively definitely paid off.

In fact, if you look closely, it has been a bit of a pattern. Take Mickey Baucus for instance. Arizona waited to offer because it knew that the chances of getting him were large.

By being patient, Arizona allowed itself to look at other options and make sure that it felt it was making the right choice. It may have been a different strategy a year or two ago, but success brings the ability to be a little more choosy with recruiting.

Arizona is going to be much better in the future because it no longer has to settle for recruits. The Wildcats are going to be able to go out and truly evaluate prospects and decide which ones are the best fit.
