Arizona’s 2009 recruiting class continues to grow as the U of A picked up another recruit, this one being 6-1, 225-pound linebacker/fullback Taniela Maka, who comes from Jordan High School in Long Beach, California.

Maka also had an offer from New Mexico, which just came on August 14th. On Thursday, he decided to end his recruitment by committing to the Wildcats. “I knew I wanted to commit during practice,” Maka said. “I was just thinking about who to commit to before senior year and Arizona was the first to offer me.”

As a junior, Maka caught 15 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown as a fullback, and at linebacker he had 133 tackles, two sacks and an interception. He didn’t do any recruiting combines this summer because of a broken hand.

Maka says that he is still learning about the Arizona program.

“I have been watching them play on TV and that is it for now,” Maka said.

While Maka says he’s committed to Arizona, there is still the possibility that he takes other visits.

“I think I will probably take an official to Arizona but I might take a couple visits just to see how other schools are,” he said.

If you watch Maka’s junior highlights, you’ll see that Arizona is getting a very underrated and talented athlete.

Maka is Arizona’s 7th 2009 commitment and he joins OL Jake Baratz, TE Jack Baucus, RB Kylan Butler, LB Trevor Erno and QB Richard Morrison.
