Arizona held its first practice of Fall Camp on Monday and those in attendance were given a preview of what is to come for the 2008 UA football season.

WildcatScoop.com was in attendance and here are some notes from the first practice.

  • Willie Tuitama was on point throughout the day, spreading the field and completing passes to several of his wide receivers. On the day, easily 10 different receivers caught passes.

  • Nick Booth was a surprising participant in running back drills. The junior college transfer seems to be competing with Nic Grigsby for playing time and he didn’t do much on Monday but he is one to watch for sure.

  • Rob Gronkowski was his usual, dominant self. He didn’t miss any passes and it was non-contact but he did what he wanted when he wanted.

  • Rob Golden was thrown right into the mix at cornerback. He was one of the few true freshmen that got many reps and he looked good.

  • Without pads, you can’t get a good read on the offensive line and defensive line so I won’t give my thoughts on them until I can see them more.

  • Freshman quarterback Matt Scott didn’t see much playing time but at the beginning of practice, I loved his arm. He definitely should push Bryson Beirne and Tyler Lyon for the backup role.

  • Beirne was all right on Monday but Lyon disappointed. He didn’t have much zip on his passes and just doesn’t seem to be showing much in his third year in the program. Maybe he’ll do better as camp continues.

  • Cam Nelson had a nice interception off Tuitama.

  • Mark Stoops wasn’t shy towards his defensive backs. He was often yelling at them, inspiring them to step up their play.

    More to come on Tuesday!
