Big win in Tucson

Posted Jan 25, 2008

Arizona shot 55% from the field and over 57% from behind the arc and went on to beat sixth ranked Washington State 76-64.

Arizona used a big second half to beat the Cougars. Thanks to terrific three-point shooting and a great defensive effort, the Wildcats turned a four-point lead into an 18-point lead.

Jerryd Bayless began the game 1-5 but would up scoring 23 points on 6-12 shooting. He knocked down three three-pointers, but more importantly shut down WSU leading scorer Derrick Low. Low did not score until the 2:38 mark of the second half, by then the game was out of reach.

At one point Arizona made eight three pointers in a row and used a big second half run to separate them from the Cougars.

Chase Budinger scored 22, while Jawann McClellan added 15. Jordan Hill was held to just four points but had 10 rebounds and six blocks.

Arizona got out of the gate slow, falling behind 9-5 when Kevin O'Neill called a timeout. After the timeout Arizona hung around for the next few minutes and eventually went on a 9-2 run to take a lead.

Arizona opened up the second half with a 13-7 run to give them a little cushion at 47-38.

Kyle Weaver and Aron Baynes led the Cougars with 15 points, while Low was held to just five, over nine points below his season average.
