Another close loss

Posted Jan 18, 2008

Jerryd Bayless missed a 15-foot jumper that would have tied the game and Stanford hung on for a 56-52 win over Arizona. The Wildcats had two chances in the final minute to tie the game, but could not convert late in the game.

Nic Wise missed a pair of free throws with :48 to play, but the Wildcats held on the defensive end and got one final shot at tying the game.

Wise prevented a turnover by knocking a loose ball off a Stanford defender, giving the Wildcats another chance. The Wildcats gave the ball to Bayless who dribbled into the lane, but missed his pull-up jumper.

After grabbing the rebound, Fred Washington hit a pair of foul shots to seal the win.

The Cats were in the game despite an off night by Bayless and Budinger. Bayless was just 3-12 from the field, while Budinger was just 5-18 from the field.

Nic Wise tried to pace the Wildcats, he scored 13 points but missed the free throws and missed a fastbreak lay-up in the final minutes.

All told the Wildcats were a terrible 6-13 from the foul line.

Jordan Hill had first half foul trouble, but still finished with 13 points.

His Cardinal counterpart , big man Brook Lopez had 19-points to lead all scorers. He was the lone Cardinal in double figures.

Arizona shot just 37.5% from the field and a paltry 30.8% from behind the arc.
