Lone Star Sleeper makes the Call

Trevin Wade

National Signing Day is just round the corner and the Arizona Wildcat coaching staff is busy trying to put the finishing touches on another solid recruiting class. Entering Super Bowl Sunday they had 16 public commitments and five schollies left and they entered Monday with 17 commitments and four potential scholarships left to give.

Stony Point High School (Round Rock, Texas) standout athlete Trevin Wade recently picked up an offer from Arizona and this past weekend took an official visit to Tucson. Wade found himself at home and upon returning to Texas he decided to pull the trigger and become a Cat.

"I committed to Arizona," said the 5-foot-10 inch athlete. "I called Coach (Dana) Dimel and told him that I wanted to come to Arizona. He was real excited. I talked to both of the Stoops coaches and they were real excited too. I am happy that I get to be a Wildcat."

While in Tucson Wade was hosted by a familiar face in UA freshman wide receiver Terrell Reese. Wade and Reese have been friends for years.

"Terrell Reese was my host and we had a good time," commented Wade. "I have known him and his brother Joe since like fifth grade. We play basketball against each other and everything."

Wade said that he just liked the overall feel he got while in Tucson, from the city to the people and the University itself.

"I liked everything really," he said. "The facilities are great and the people are all real nice. The coaches were all real cool and down to earth guys and I just really felt comfortable there. I know that when I go there I will have people I know too so that was big for me. Having Terrell and Joe there will make it better for me and it is a perfect fit."

Wade is listed as a wide receiver but he was recruited by Arizona to play on the other side of the ball.

"They recruited me as a cornerback," he said. "I can play that or receiver but I am going to start out at corner and I like that a little better. I want to try and go both ways if they will let me and I think they will give me a shot but I know I am going to be a cornerback."

Wade is also looking forward to signing on the dotted line and getting his fax into the Arizona coaches on Wednesday morning.

"I am going to sign at eight o'clock in the morning," he said. "It is going to be a fun day for sure. Playing football in college is a dream and I am looking forward to making it official."

Wade is the 17th public commitment for the class of 2007 for Arizona. The most the Wildcats can sign is 21 so there are only four scholarships left for this class, if the coaches choose to use them.
