Wednesday night Bayless returns to the McKale Center floor with a game against Tucson High. The 4-3 Knights will face a 1-4 Badgers squad on the home floor of his future team. Tip-off is slated for 7:00.
Bayless has played at McKale before both as an individual and with St. Mary’s at the Arizona Team Camps. Although it won’t be a new experience fro him, Bayless is looking forward to the game.
“It should be a good experience,” Bayless said. “I look forward to playing in Tucson. It should be fun.”
Although the venue is bigger than the normal high school gym, Bayless does not see any other difference in playing this game from other games.
“It will just have more people,” Bayless explained. “In the end it will just be basketball players playing basketball. The court doesn’t really affect your game too much.”
On Friday night St. Mary’s will again make the trek down I-10, this time to square off against Salpointe Catholic High School. The Lancers are 4-4, losing four straight games after a strong start.
This game will be at Salpointe’s home gym, so space should be at a premium. Those wishing to watch Bayless against the Lancers may want to get their much earlier than the announced 7:00 p.m. tip-off. In years past other Wildcat recruits have played games against Tucson teams, and those gyms usually sold out.
St. Mary’s is still trying to come together, but they are a very solid basketball team. They split two games in Illinois against high quality, national competition and are concentrating on improving game by game.
“We’re young,” Bayless admitted. “We should keep getting better and better the more we play. We are focused on the state playoffs.”
