Tuitama Willie Tuitama had a concussion against LSU. Although he took the helmet to helmet blow on the game’s first play, Mike Stoops thought that most of the damage was hurt later on in the game.
Tuitama is not practicing on Monday and Stoops listed him as “probable to questionable”. He did not set a timetable on an announcement of whether or not he will start against Stephen F. Austin.
Injury Notes: DT Yaniv Barnett has a hyper-extended elbow. Originally it was thought to be dislocated but that was not the case. Stoops listed Barnett as questionable but did not rule him out of Saturday’s game.
Wide receiver Bobby McCoy is expected to begin practicing on Monday and could be available on Saturday.
He also noted that Mike Thomas was getting healthier. Thomas said that it is just a part of football and he expects to be close to 100% by this weekend.
Running Back: Stoops was quick to praise junior running back Chris Jennings but stated that as of now Chris Henry is the starter. He did say that Jennings and Henry would split carries.
Concerns: Stoops seemed most concerned about execution. He said the staff would consider either simplifying things or making the team repeat reps over and over in an effort to make sure they had things down. He also promised it would be a hard week of practice.
Transfers: SFA lists 13 D-I transfers on their two-deep depth chart. Among the schools represented are Nebraska, Clemson, LSU, Tennessee and West Virginia.
One transfer is very familiar with Arizona. Derke Robinson left Arizona and enrolled at SFA. He is a partial qualifier is will not be eligible until next week.
Jerome Brooks is a RB transfer from Purdue who faced the Wildcats in 2003 while with the Boilermakers. That day he had a career best 122 yards and two scores.
Fast Start? With a win over SFA, the Wildcats would start league play with a record above .500 for the first time in the Stoops era.
D-IAA The Wildcats are 3-0 against D-IAA teams since 2000 with all three wins coming against Northern Arizona.
