Brittain was charged early Tuesday morning after assaulting UCLA forward Josiah Johnson outside a Westwood, CA bar. Johnson is the son of former UCLA standout and current Fox Sports Net broadcaster Marques Johnson. Reports vary, but it is believed that Brittain struck Johnson with either a beer mug or a beer bottle.
Brittain was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and released later that morning after posting a $30,000 bond.
The sophomore missed all of last season after being suspended for violating an unspecified team rule. He attended Mesa Community College and was readmitted by the school in January and participated in spring practice.
The University and football staff would not comment, although associate Athletic Director Rocky LaRose said that the athletic department was “aware of the situation, and taking it seriously.”
Ironically enough, Brittain was praised by his coach at Mesa for being a great influence on and off the field.
"He’s a good kid,” said Dan Dunn after Brittain returned to Arizona. “I never saw anything to cause concern.”
