A closer look: USC 45, Arizona 0

Posted Nov 16, 2003

The Wildcats were shut out for the first time since 1991, a string of 145 games. To make matters worse, it was the last home game for 14 Wildcat seniors.

TRENDS
*The Cats are 1-16 against ranked teams since the start of the 2000 season. Their lone win was a 31-15 win over USC on Oct. 7, 2000.

*At No. 2 the Trojans are the highest ranked team to play in Tucson since No. 1 Washington came to town in 1992.

*USC has won 17 of their last 18 games.

*The Cats faced their ninth ranked team of the season.

RECORDS

Three USC team records were broken on Saturday night:

WR Mike Williams became USC’s all time touchdown receptions leader. His third score of the evening put him at 26, passing Kevin Williams. The scary thing is that Williams set the record before his sophomore season is over.

Len Dale White scored his 11th touchdown, most ever for a USC freshman runner. Charles White had 10 touchdowns in his first season.

Ryan Killeen converted his 49th consecutive extra-point, tying the record with two others.

SERIES
USC holds a 21-6 lead in the series. The Trojans are 8-3 in Tucson.

ARIZONA PLAYERS OF THE GAME

NOTABLE QUOTABLE
“We weren’t worried about trying to control the score until the end of the game and I think we did it right. I don’t care what anybody else says. I don’t give a crap. We wanted to see John David Booty throw some passes.”--USC coach Pete Carroll on whether or not the Trojans were trying to run up the score when they went for it on fourth down four times in the second half.
