Solomon changing demeanor

Anu Solomon

Anu Solomon is likely going to start, but he is still working on becoming more intense. Read on to find out why that is and more.

Anu Solomon likely did not expect to sit last year, but the experience may have made him a better quarterback.

"Last year it was very humbling for me to redshirt," Solomon said. "Right now it is being more assertive, a leader of the team, and hopefully we can achieve our goals."

Rich Rodriguez has not made a secret of the fact that he would like Solomon to be more intense and the quarterback has taken it to heart.

"I’m more intense, but not where he wants me to be," Solomon said. "It is something I have to work on and one of my weaknesses. It is something I was born with and part of my personality.

"I have to get out of that chill mode, but it feels I am constantly flipping that switch. When I step on the field I can’t be chill, but going in the locker room I can be."

Solomon has been part of a quarterback competition throughout camp and there has been a balancing of personalities between them.

"I would say off the field we do everything with each other," he said. "We get on each other in the film session and try to make ourselves and each other better.

"We also know when we step on the field it is a competition and we won’t be as friendly as we are off the field, but we have to compete."

In addition to working on his demeanor, Solomon wants to become a better overall quarterback.

"I am working on picking up the offense, making certain reads faster and learning the defenses," he said. "We have been going against our own defense for so long that they know what we are doing, so we have to find ways to respond to what they are doing."

As the first game approaches, this week won't be the first time Solomon has thought about facing UNLV.

"I have a couple friends on the team and they are all talking to me," he said. "We tell each other good luck, but not a lot more.

"We have to take it one game at a time and hopefully we can execute every play and we won’t take it lightly." Recommended Stories
