Rich Rodriguez

Rich Rodriguez met with the media after Monday's practice. Read on to see what he said about the quarterbacks and more.

  • There are numerous players that Arizona expects to contribute after a redshirt season and Rich Rodriguez discussed what he expects from those players.

"The biggest thing is the physical gains, strength and conditioning wise and then for a guy like Anu knowing the system and learning what to do, which way to go," he said

"It’s hard to play as a true freshman. We played too many last year and will probably play too many this year."

  • One of the concerns for any coach is injuries and because of that, Arizona is hitting much less during camp.

"We’re hitting so much less live than ever before," Rodriguez said. "You can’t afford to and our depth situation is not where I want it to be, so an injury to us as opposed to an experienced, deeper team is more of a cause for concern."

  • The quarterback competition remains a secret, but Rodriguez says the biggest issue surrounding it is consistency.

"That’s the frustrating part," Rodriguez said. "One day they are all pretty consistent and then the next day they are all pretty inconsistent.

"I think the one thing that is consistent is that at line point they are all inconsistent. We will keep working on it, but this is a big week for them for sure."

  • One player that has emerged on defense is nose tackle Jeff Worthy, who should have a major role this season.

"Strength and conditioning wise is a part of it, but also understanding what we are doing," Rodriguez said. "Jeff has had a really good camp. We had to have it. Some of it is hard to foresee, but we had pictured him getting in the mix anyway and he has taken advantage of it.'
