Davis hearing from plenty

De'Ron Davis

De'Ron Davis is one of the top players in 2016. Read on for an update on his recruitment and more.

Aurora (Col.) Overland’s De'Ron Davis is arguably the best center prospect in the west for 2016, so it is no surprise that there were plenty of coaches watching him on Thursday, including Sean Miller.

As good as Davis already is, he has made a major transformation from last season and it has helped his game dramatically.

“I am working on being more aggressive,” Davis said. “I think my biggest strengths are that I know the game and the spots on the floor and I can play inside and out, so I can post or step out and hit a jumper.

“I have come a long way physically. I have lost a lot of weight, so I am a lot stronger, quicker, and faster. My ability to stay in the game has completely changed. Before I could only go for five or ten minutes before I had to come out and now I feel I can play an entire game.”

Davis’ recruitment spans throughout the country and he is keeping an open mind as he goes through the process.

“Colorado, Arizona, Arkansas, Purdue, Indiana, Wake Forest, Texas, and Texas A&M are the main ones right now,” Davis said. “They are pretty much all coming after me the same. Indiana was my first offer and Colorado is the hometown school, so those are probably the schools recruiting me the hardest.

“There was pressure to stay at home at first, but not anymore. I am just trying to find the best school to develop me into a pro and help me get to the next level. “

Arizona is hoping that Davis feels that it can help him reach that goal.

“I talk to a few coaches at Arizona, including Sean Miller,” Davis said. “They tell me that they have athletic guards and bigs, so I can help keep that athleticism and they like my ability to run the court and get to the rim and finish.”

At this point, the schools recruiting Davis will have to wait a while for him to make his decision.

“I don’t have any plans to make a list or anything like that, but I know I will probably decide around this time next year,” he said.
