On Wednesday afternoon, 2015 Tucson High defensive back Demetrius Flannigan became the latest player to commit to the Wildcat football program.
His commitment was the result of hours of hard work by the Arizona coaching staff and an overall comfort level with the school.
"I don't think there was one moment that it dawned on me that I wanted to become a Wildcat," Flannigan. "It was a combination of things.
"Arizona was my first offer, it's the local school and the coaches were really good. I just didn't see any reason to delay the decision any longer."
One coach in particular impressed the Flannigan camp.
"Coach Lockwood is really what did it for me," he said. "He was incredible. Just a down to earth guy and he said they thought I would be a good fit as a Wildcat.
"He really built up a lot of trust with me and made it easy to make this decision."
Flannigan gets excited thinking about his future role for the Wildcats.
"I've gotten a lot better over the past few years," he said. "I've played well against good competition and that has improved my confidence.
"I'm a quick guy and I think I surprise guys with my strength. The coaches said they could see me at corner back or safety. A lot just depends on how I develop and where the best fit for me is."
It's not too early for Flannigan to reflect on his decision and what it means to him.
"I'm just incredibly happy for the opportunity," he said. "It's been a dream to play D-I football and I have the chance to do it in front of friends and family."
