Richard Solomon scored the first points and only a few minutes into the game, Brandon Ashley left with an injury to the top of his foot.
After the injury, Jordan Matthews followed with a bucket. T.J. McConnell and David Kravish then exchanged hoops before Aaron Gordon scored and McConnell hit a three. Justin Cobbs then made a three as well and a basket by Rondae Jefferson tied the game at nine about five minutes in.
Kravish scored and Tarczewski got two free-throws. Gordon proceeded to score, but two buckets by Solomon forced Miller to call timeout with the Wildcats down 22-17 with a little over eight minutes left.
Solomon scored again, but Tarczewski answered. After a basket by Jabari Bird, Solomon scored. Nick Johnson then got his first hoop of the game and McConnell followed. After another Solomon score, a dunk by Gordon made it 30-25 in favor of Cal. Hollis-Jefferson scored and two free-throws by Tarczewski then cut the Cal lead to 30-29 at the half.
Hollis-Jefferson made two free-throws to start the half, but Wallace made a three. Tarczewski also made two from the line, as Kravish and Cobbs scored consecutive buckets. A dunk by Tarczewski proceeded to cut the Cal lead to 37-35 with 15:49 left in regulation.
Nick Johnson made two from the line, as Wallace responded with a three. Kravish then made a jump hook, but McConnell hit a jumper to keep the Golden Bears' lead at 42-39 with a little over 13 minutes left.
Cobbs made a jumper and York came down and hit a three. However, Kravish and Wallace scored in addition to Cobbs making two free-throws to put the Golden Bears up 50-42.
Hollis-Jefferson and McConnell scored consecutive baskets as Tarczewski added two free-throws. After two from the line from Cobbs, Gordon scored, but Cobbs came right back and did the same to put Cal up 54-50 with seven minutes left.
Four free-throws by Tarczewski tied the game at 54 less than two minutes later as he hit a shot to give the Wildcats a two-point lead soon after. Cobbs and McConnell matched each other with a bucket and two free-throws by Cobb tied the game with a little over a minute left.
Justin Cobbs later hit a shot with .9 left and Arizona's last second bid fell short as the Wildcats got their first loss of the season.
