Defense leads to rare win in Seattle

Arizona defeated Washington 57-53 on Thursday night. Read on for a complete recap of the game.

Arizona has not had much luck at Washington since Sean Miller arrived. However, that changed Thursday night when Arizona came back from a deficit to defeat the Huskies 57-53.

Mark Lyons hit the first basket of the game, but Scott Suggs matched it quickly. Shawn Kemp Jr. then got a basket followed by one from Abdul Gaddy and another by Kemp to give the Huskies an 8-2 lead. After a free-throw by Brandon Ashley, Kemp scored his sixth point of the night to put UW up 10-3 with 15:44 left in the half.

Gaddy scored off an offensive rebound, but Grant Jerrett was able to score on a dunk. After a score by Aziz N'Diaye, C.J. Wilcox scored in the lane and the Huskies led 16-5 with 11:52 left. A three-pointer by Parrom and shot by Kaleb Tarczewski brought Arizona within 16-10, but Gaddy proceeded to score. After a three-point play by Tarczewski, Andrew Andrews hit a jumper and the Huskies led 20-13 with 7:30 left in the half.

Solomon Hill scored his first bucket of the game and Mark Lyons followed with one of his own. Tarczewski then made two free-throws and a shot by Johnson gave Arizona the lead, although a layup by Wilcox put the Huskies up 22-21 with 3:23 left in the first half.

Tarczewski and Suggs matched free-throws before N'Diaye and Wilcox scored to give the Huskies a 28-23 lead at the half.

Tarczewski started the half with a free-throw, but N'Diaye made two of his own. Hill and N'Diaye then exchanged baskets before Ashley scored on an offensive rebound to bring Arizona to within 32-28 with about 17 minutes left in the second half. Suggs made a free-throw, but Parrom nailed a three-pointer shortly after to make it 33-31 in favor of the Huskies.

After a hook shot by N'Diaye, Johnson made one of two from the line as the Huskies led 35-32 with 13 minutes left in the half. A layup by Lyons brought Arizona to within one before a three-pointer by Lyons put Arizona up by two. After a free-throw by Parrom, Simmons hit a layup to keep the Huskies within one.

Gaddy matched two free-throws by Johnson before Hill and Lyons scored to give Arizona the 44-39 lead with 7:24 left. Suggs and Johnson exchanged baskets before Suggs made two free-throws and Gaddy followed them with a score. Soon after, a three by Wilcox gave UW the 48-46 lead with 4:31 left.

Lyons and Hill made consecutive baskets to put the Wildcats up two, but Johnson fouled Wilcox on a three-pointer and he proceeded to make two of them. After a free-throw by Kemp, Johnson made a floater to put Arizona up 52-51 with 1:43 left.

Hill and Suggs exchanged baskets to keep Arizona up one with 52 seconds left. Johnson drew a foul 11 seconds later and made one of two free-throws to put the Wildcats up 55-53. After a missed lob by the Huskies, Johnson went to the line and made both free-throws to extend the lead to four and seal the game.
