Wadood staying patient

Jaleel Wadood is one of the top juniors in the west. Read on to see the schools recruiting him, his thoughts on the process, and more.

While many UA football fans noticed the lack of talent up and down the team's defensive line, one of the more overlooked weaknesses of the defense was the corner spot opposite Jonathon McKnight.

Coach Rodriguez hopes that either an infusion of new talent or the progression of current players can shore up the position.

Regardless, it's safe to say the coaching staff is looking for talented corners for the next recruiting class and Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco cornerback Jaleel Wadood fits the profile of the kind of corner the Arizona coach staff is trying to lure to Tucson.

Wadood is one of the more talented defensive backs in the west and he figures to have many suitors.

"My season went really well," Wadood said. "We made it to the semifinals and lost, but we left everything on the field.

"I was happy with how I played. I missed a game with a sprained ankle, but I was still able to get a lot of touchdowns and tackles along with a pick. I also got more attention as the season went on."

Wadood is already hearing from plenty of schools and that recruiting attention is sure to pick up.

"I'm hearing from almost all the Pac-12," he said. "Other than that, I'm hearing from Florida, Georgia, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss. Those schools have good programs and a lot going for them. I still need to find out more though."

Wadood isn't letting the recruiting process slow him down from achieving his ultimate objective this offseason.

"I have one goal this summer," Wadood said. "I want to get stronger. Almost every kid has that as a big goal, but it's super important for me.

"I feel I can improve at everything, but the main thing I need for the next level is bulk. The recruiting is nice, but I have to work on my game, first."

Wadood wants to look at all of his options before coming to a decision, but has a time frame for when he would like to see his recruitment come to an end.

"Ideally, I'll decide on a college by next summer, but if I don't feel comfortable with a school I'll wait," he said.
