Ducks Drop Three Overtime Thriller

Oregon shot just 14-27 from the FT line.

Oregon and UTEP wrestled back-and-forth for the entirety of regulation and three more overtime periods before UTEP pulled out a 91-84 win.

The Miners (4-5) controlled the tempo of the game, much like Nebraska did Saturday, keeping the game in the 60s in regulation. In doing so, the Ducks were never able to get into a rhythm on offense finishing the game shooting just 31-for-81 and 8-for-28 from three-point range.

In tight-knit ball games the outcome is often decided at the charity stripe. That was no different Wednesday, when the Ducks shot just 14-for-27 and the Miners hit 30-for-41. They were especially poor in key situations, with Arsalan Kazemi missing three of four in the closing minutes of regulation (he finished 7-15) and Tony Woods did the same to finish the first overtime.

Damyean Dotson led the Ducks with a career-high 20 points, ten of which came in a spirt late in the second half that gave the Ducks a 49-45 lead. Carlos Emory finished with 18, Dominic Artis with 15.

Kazemi finished with 13 points and 16 rebounds. The senior was injured late in the final overtime, laying on the floor in pain before being helped off with an undisclosed injury. He later returned.

UTEP employed several defenses which employed heavy denial and doublet-teams to key Oregon players, namely E.J. Singler, who finished with just two points on 1-for-4 shooting.

The loss was just the team's second of the season, the first coming to Cincinnati in Las Vegas.

Oregon will play Houston Baptist Saturday at Matthew Knight Arena.
