Salt Lake City (Utah) Juan Diego linebacker Kalei Kauhaahaa describes his first offer as "the best…
Linebacker wants to visit
He picked up his very first offer from Arizona in mid-April and has been able to establish a very good relationship with offensive line coach Robert Anae in the process.
"So far I met him once," Kauhaahaa said. "He came to my school; very nice guy. It's a great relationship. It's the same culture kind of deal, you know? So we have a lot in common."
Since receiving his first scholarship offer, Kauhaahaa has picked up a couple more and is getting attention from a few other FBS programs.
"I just got an offer from Weber State," Kauhaahaa said. "I also just got an offer from Utah State and then Colorado, UNLV and Boise State have been talking to me."
With the increased attention, Kauhaahaa feels a few more offers could be headed his way.
"I feel UNLV is on the verge of offering," Kauhaahaa said. "With Colorado there is very close communication and Boise State wants me to prove myself and from there I think I can earn more scholarships."
Arizona was smart to get involved early with Kauhaahaa. Due to their willingness to offer first, the Wildcats seem to be a step ahead of the other programs chasing him as UA is one of his favorites.
"I would go Arizona, Weber State and Utah State." Kauhaahaa said.
Kauhaahaa has a lot on his plate in the coming months and that could cause his recruitment to grow.
"I have quite a few camps scheduled," Kauhaahaa said. "I have the dates, but not off the top of my head."
After the summer is over and the college football season begins, Kauhaahaa plans on taking his visits and the first one could be to the UA campus for a home game.
"I talked to Coach Anae about visiting on a game day," Kauhaahaa said. "But I haven't really got my other visits down yet."
Kauhaahaa is obviously gunning to be a big contributor at linebacker on the college level, but football isn't the only sport he desires to play in college. If a school is willing to fulfill his wishes of playing on the diamond as well as the gridiron, it could give that given program an advantage in landing his services.
"Baseball is a big factor," Kauhaahaa said. "But no recruitment there yet. Working on it, but so far nothing."
The football season begins in roughly three months and at some point during the 2012 campaign, Kauhaahaa plans to make a final decision.
"I'm not going to wait until Signing Day," Kauhaahaa said. "I think I am going to give it until mid football season and from there I will make my decision."
