Hopkins taking it all in

Chandler (Ariz.) Basha's Jaron Hopkins was recently offered by Arizona. Read on to see his thoughts on where the Wildcats stand, the other schools involved, and more.

Chandler (Ariz.) Basha athlete Jaron Hopkins was recently offered by Arizona, but the 6-foot-4, 180-pound four-star intends to still take his time throughout the recruiting process.

"Everyone predicted that I would make a run during this AAU season and that is what I am going to do," Hopkins said.

In terms of why he has seen his recruiting attention increase, Hopkins says that his versatility has helped him stand out.

"My playmaking ability with my ability to get others involved or score myself," he said. "I can get to the rim at will and my jump shot is improving."

In addition to his Arizona offer, Hopkins has started to hear from numerous schools throughout the country.

"Arizona, USC, Penn, Penn State, Colorado, Colorado State, Kansas, UCLA, and Stanford are the schools I am hearing from," Hopkins said. "Right now there are really no schools that are sticking out. I am still neutral."

In terms of the Arizona offer, Hopkins believes that his strong play is what led to it.

"I did not know if Arizona was going to offer me, but they have been recruiting me for a long time and thankfully I picked it up in front of them in Las Vegas," he said. "They said I can run the wing or the point. I am interchangeable at the one or two, so I can come in and get minutes right away."

Although Hopkins is being recruited at a few different positions, he strongly believes that small forward is not where his strengths are.

"Right now I really do not mind the one or the two," he said. "Some schools say I am a three, but I don't feel that I am that tall or big enough to defend a three. The one or the two is my primary position."

Hopkins is not sure of an exact date he would like to decide, but is starting to get an idea of a timeline.

"I will probably decide right before my next high school season," he said. "I plan on visiting Penn, Washington State, probably Colorado, Arizona, and USC."
