Lopez happy with decision

Gilbert (Ariz.) Mesquite athlete Anthony Lopez committed to Arizona in September. How does he feel about the season so far? What do the coaches tell him? Read on for more.

5-foot-10, 185-pound Gilbert (Ariz.) Mesquite athlete Anthony Lopez decided to commit to Arizona in early September.

Since then, he has seen the Wildcats struggle, as they are off to a 1-4 start and looking for a win over a major school.

Has that effected his original decision?

"No, everything is going good," Lopez said. "I talk with Coach Kish a lot and we have a great relationship that we are building."

Lopez has seen numerous Arizona games and says that even though the UA has lost, he is still impressed by the effort.

"They have had some tough games, but they come back and play hard," he said. "They have competed hard against all of the teams they have played against."

In addition, Lopez has talked to the coaching staff, which has told him to remain patient as it tries to get better.

"The coaches tell me they need to build off other games and then build for the next one and keep getting better," Lopez said.

While Lopez was originally recruited for the offensive side of the ball, he admits that there is a possibility the coaching staff changes its mind.

"Arizona is recruiting me for both sides of the ball," Lopez said. "I think they want me to offense so that will probably happen unless they decide they need me on defense."

Lopez has had a successful senior season so far, highlighted by his team's 56-20 win over Mesa Dobson on Friday night.

"My season is going well so far," he said. "We had a big win Friday night against Dobson. That was my best game with four touchdowns and 227 yards. I think my senior season has gone really well so far."

In fact, it has gone so well that Lopez has ran for 712 yards on 105 carries while scoring six touchdowns as well.
