Arizona leads for safety

San Antonio Houston High School defensive back Leo Thomas is looking at a handful of schools and it seems Arizona has pulled in front. read on to see the schools involved, when he may decide, and more.

Back in June, Arizona found itself in a tight recruiting battle with North Texas for the services of San Antonio Houston High School defensive back Leo Thomas. Flash forward to today, and the Wildcats, due to the continued efforts of Ryan Walters and Mike Stoops, find themselves ahead of the Mean Green and the rest of the schools involved with Thomas.

"I've added offers from UTSA and Texas State, but I'm not too worried about them," Thomas said. "I'm just worried right now about Arizona, Colorado, and North Texas.

"Arizona is number one on my list. Mike Stoops and Ryan Walters, we've been building a close bond. We've been talking a lot and they've been telling me about the school. Everything has just been going well, we've been having good conversations and we're building chemistry with one another."

While the 85th ranked safety in the class of 2012 remains uncommitted, that may not be the case for much longer.

"There was a chance early this summer that I was going to commit to Arizona," Thomas said. "My dad and I have been talking about it, but I don't know when I'm going to make my decision. It's probably going to be midway through my season or sometime before that."

For Stoops and Walters however, a decision sooner rather than later would definitely be in their favor.

"If I had to commit today, it would be to Arizona," Thomas said.

With Arizona in such great shape with the three-star prospect, who also holds offers from Wake Forest, New Mexico State, and UTEP, it's no surprise that he plans to make his way on campus the first chance he gets.

"I will take my first official visit to Arizona during our bye week," Thomas said. "That'll be at the end of September or the beginning of October. I'll probably go visit Colorado, but I haven't given much thoughts to the other schools I want to visit just yet."

So, with Arizona leading the recruitment, what will happen next for Thomas if he enjoys his trip to Tucson?

"There's a chance that I'll commit on my visit, if everything goes well and I like what I see," Thomas said. "That's the only thing stopping me, is that I haven't been to Arizona. I'm just waiting for everything to fall into place right now."
