UA recruiting Oklahoma athlete

Moore (Okla.) athlete Andrew Long is able to play numerous positions and has plenty of schools recruiting him because of it.

Moore (Okla.) Southmoore athlete Andrew Long has put up numbers in high school.

In just eight games as a junior Long had 176-carries for 1,499 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also had 16 catches for 154 yards while also doing damage on kickoff returns with nine returns for 272 yards including a 94-yard return to the house.

Now, he is hoping those numbers turn into recruiting attention.

"Recruiting is going good right now," Long said. "I don't have any offers or anything but I think it will come with time.

"I am hearing from a bunch of schools right now. I am getting a bunch of mail from different schools, but not a lot on the phone."

Long is hearing from schools throughout the country, but says that he is not currently favoring anybody.

"I am getting a bunch of mail from Arizona, hearing from Colorado, Iowa State, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State," Long said.

Long would like to see a handful of the schools recruiting him, including the UA.

"I have not visited Arizona or anything like that," he said. "I would like to visit just to see everything but I am not familiar with them yet besides the mail, which is pictures."

As Long does hear from different schools, he has a good idea of how he will be judging them.

"I am looking at academic support because I want to be confident in my ability in college because it is so different from high school," Long said.

"I am going to be looking at facilities, staff, student living and a lot of things."

In addition to working on his recruitment, Long knows what he would like to improve before he gets to college.

"I want to work on probably my awareness and agility and not so much quickness, but my ability to evade tackles," he said.

"That's not my style, but I am not that big so I need to work on that. My strength is my speed and my toughness as well."

Long is able to play on both sides of the ball, but says that he currently does not have a preference.

"It does not matter what position," he said. "I can play returner, corner, wide receiver, whatever the school wants me to."

As far as a decision goes, Long will be ready when the time comes.

"I am not in control of it really, so whenever it ends and feels right will be good," he said.
